Purpose:

Promotes literacy and the love of reading among Chicago's Youth by providing one-on-one tutoring.

Description:

WITS provides a simple solution to the education gap
-Filling schools with volunteers and giving under-resourced teachers an extra helping hand
-Providing consistent one-on-one tutoring and mentoring attention during the most academically influential years of youth
-Preparing Chicago’s future workforce with a solid foundation for success through the simple act of reading

WITS connects communities and breaks down barriers
-Mobilizing corporate and community organizations to “give back” to neighborhood schools
-Bringing people together across all cultural, socioeconomic, racial, and generational differences through reading
-Exposing children in CPS to caring adults from a diverse workforce

WITS offers an easy way to make a measurable difference
-Providing volunteer opportunities with the minimum commitment of one hour a week
-Extensively evaluating all programs and publishing the results that support the fact that WITS reading programs work!
-Working with consistent and reliable staff who coordinate the recruitment, transportation, training, and matching of volunteers with students
