Purpose:

To present musical performances and education programs to bridge gaps in artistry and diversity

Description:

The Chicago Jazz Philharmonic (CJP), founded and led by jazz trumpeter and educator, Orbert Davis, is a 55-piece symphony orchestra presenting repertoire that bridges the jazz and classical divide. In doing so, it bridges gaps in genre, artistry, and diversity. What most concert-goers do not know is that CJP began as an music education organization that grew an orchestra arm. Formerly known as MusicAlive! NFP, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic provides K-12 music education programs in Chicago Public Schools, targeting schools with little to no music and band programs. This program, now called "Jazz Alive" works with underserved schools to build sequential music programs that will track students into an elementary jazz band and subsequently a high school music program.
