To provide a “home away from home” for families whose children are receiving medical treatment

Since 1977, Ronald McDonald House® near Children's Memorial Hospital (the second Ronald McDonald House in the world), has been a "home-away-from-home" for over 25,000 families whose children have a serious illness or require medical treatment. The House provides a place to eat, sleep, relax, do laundry, share common stories and take a break from the long days at the hospital. The House is able to offer these services through our 21 guest bedrooms, multiple kitchens, five living rooms, laundry facilities and several play areas. All of these services are made available to guests of the House for a $10 per night room donation, but no family is turned away for an inability to pay. Today, the actual operating cost for one night is over $50, and Ronald McDonald House relies on thousands of generous individuals and organizations to provide the funds necessary for annual operations.

In 2012, Ronald McDonald House near Children’s Memorial Hospital will move to Streeterville and become Ronald McDonald House® near Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, when Children’s Memorial moves to a larger, state-of-the-art facility committed to delivering innovative care for children. The new House will be able to accommodate 86 families “in House,” and will have 9 bedrooms within Lurie Children’s dedicated to families with the most medically fragile children, making it the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world!
