Scholarship and Mentoring Community

Horizons for Youth is a community committed to helping children recognize and achieve their full potential. In partnership with dedicated families, we provide need-based scholarships, one-on-one mentoring, and enrichment programs for 111 Kindergarten through High School students throughout Chicago.

To ensure that students can receive a quality education, we provide them with 90% tuition scholarships at one of our partnership schools. The families contribute the remaining 10%. We carefully select and monitor our schools to insure that our students receive the best education possible.

Mentoring is the cornerstone of our organization. These volunteers, or Big Siblings, develop a one-on-one relationship with a child in our program. They attend our monthly (second Saturday) Child Enrichment Outings and have at least one other contact with the child individually each month. As a Big Sibling, you are a primary source of support for a student in our program and have the opportunity to develop a lasting relationship with the child and the entire family. Mentors commit to a two-year contract in order to be matched, and our average mentoring relationship is just under three years.
