Our mission is to keep kids safe and help them succeed in school and in life.

As a leading national organization that provides year-round, school-based, comprehensive after-school programs to disadvantaged youth, we offer activities that equip them with the skills and experiences needed to become productive members of the 21st century workforce.

ASAS was founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, and has grown to serve over 70,000 children annually across our 13 chapters; 87 percent of our participants come from families of poverty. Our programs are located on school-sites to provide a strong link to the regular school day, staffed by well-prepared and dedicated instructors, and offer a combination of academic, enrichment and physical fitness activities. According to a recent study published by the Harvard Family Research Center, such characteristics of after-school programs are critical for academic, social and emotional success in youth.

Each day, we provide our participants with comprehensive after-school opportunities, which include the three pillars of Academics, Enrichment, and Health & Fitness. Within each pillar, all program activities are built upon the six cornerstones of quality youth programming: safety, youth-adult relationships, student voice and choice, skill-building, community & family engagement, and strong school partnerships. We utilize these pillars and cornerstones to design programs that lead to positive outcomes experiences for our students.
